Happy Sunday! If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I did the No Leather Challenge this week ( don´t know what that is, then read more about it here ). I loved sharing 7 leather-free outfits on instagram and really getting the message out there that you don´t need to wear leather to look great. Today I wanna look back on the past 7 days and tell you what I learned from doing this challenge. I wrote the recap in interview-style and I enjoy the format a lot. I hope you like it as much as I do…
Was it easier for you to do this challenge again compared to the first time you did it?
Yes it was a bit easier, mainly because of the broader choices when it comes to vegan shoes ( canvas sneakers, espadrilles, Flip Flops… ) and clothes ( floaty dress or trousers… ) for summer. And it just felt way more natural for me then the first time. Back then I really had to think about what I could still wear during the challenge, it was all so new to me. This time I was already used to it a lot, because I was mainly wearing leather free outfits for the past three months anyway. no leather challenge summer
What feeling did this challenge give you?
It confirmed me that not only leather-free, but vegan fashion is the way to go for me. I enjoy it and I love to cause no harm to animals with what I am wearing. no leather challenge summer
How did this challenge change you?
It made me more aware again of all the leather we use everyday. Bags, shoes, belts, patches on jeans, and the list goes on and on. All this leather caused so much pain to the animals and to us humans as well, and we use it so carelessly.
Did you miss wearing your leather items?
No, not at all. I own a good selection of leather free bags ( check out this post to see all my vegan bags ) and shoes, way better than when I did the challenge the first time. no leather challenge summer
Did you feel less fashionable without your leather bags and shoes?
Definitely not! I loved all the outfits I wore and it gave me the best feeling to know I did not harm animals for looking stylish!no leather challenge summer
Are you going to wear leather again after this challenge ends?
When it comes to bags the answer is clearly no. I already sold most of my leather ones, and the ones I still have, I don´t wear anymore and I want to sell those to. Selling leather bags is quite easy and by doing that someone else gets a nice leather bag without a new animal getting killed for their skin.
But when it comes to shoes, I am gonna keep a few and wear them until they are done. Selling quite worn in leather shoes is not working and they are still in way to good condition to just donate them. So I think the best solution is to wear them as long as possible and then move on to vegan replacements.
I also own quite a few leather jackets, which I wanna sell most of. I just want to keep my black one, because it´s again quite a worn in piece, with marks and fading, so selling it would be hard. And I enjoy wearing it still, getting rid of it won´t bring the animal back to life, right?!
What was your favourite no leather outfit?
Wow that´s a tough decision, I liked them all! But the last outfit I wore for the challenge, is my fave I think, I just love the minimal aesthetics and sporty vibe it has, plus it really was 100% my style and I felt really confident wearing this look. no leather challenge summer
What´s up next for your journey to a leather free wardrobe?
I am gonna continue selling most of my leather items, wear the shoes and the jacket I´m keeping until they are done, and then replace them with vegan ones.
What is your favourite leather free bag / shoe?
During summer I usually live in canvas sneakers, and this year is no exception. I´ve been wearing my Veja silver canvas sneakers a lot. They are not only vegan, but also made under fair circumstances and I think the colour is stunning! ( I wear them in this outfit )
Can I still read your blog when I love to wear leather?
Of course! My outfits and Capsule Wardrobe post are going to be as great as before and I am sure you can gain a lot of style inspiration, regardless of you choosing to wear leather, or not. I am not judgemental, it´s just a personal decision, and you have the right to choose a different path…
Do you gonna host / do another one of this challenges?
Yes for sure, I am definitely gonna do one in Autumn as well. I think there is still so much more I can learn and gain from doing these challenges!
That´s it for today! What do you think about wearing / not wearing leather? Leave me a comment….
I wish you the best day ever!
